Carpets vary in their composition and quality, from 100% wool woven Axminster’s to polypropylene felt backed carpets.
Each requires it’s own particular cleaning method in order to achieve optimum results.
The three main cleaning methods for carpets are:
DRY FUSION
Cleans, Stain-blocks, Heat Dries, Deodorizes in one process
Requires only 30 minutes to 1 hour to dry
No wetness, the system has it’s own heat drying system, it cleans and dries at the same time.
The process:
- Establish the type of carpet that you have ( including inspection for the correct fitting to ensure there is no loose gripper or joints)
- Vacuum using a professional Sebo vacuum cleaner that removes loose dirt and dust
- Apply a spray application of cleaning solution, deodorizer and stain blocker.
- We then use a specially formulated bonnet pad which has been immersed in the same solution. In conjunction with the Dry Fusion machine to clean and dry the carpet.
As this is a low moisture system the drying time is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Therefore this is an ideal cleaning method for carpets that need to be accessed in a short space of time.
HOT WATER EXTRACTION
(incorrectly called steam cleaning)
The Hot Water Extraction process is as follows:
- Establish the type of carpet you have (including inspection for the correct fitting to ensure there is no loose gripper or joints)
- Vacuum thoroughly, using a professional Sebo vacuum cleaner that will remove loose dirt and dust.
- Apply a pre-spray that releases the dirt and most stains from the carpet
- Rinse the pre-spray from the carpet using a ‘wand’ which injects/extracts a mixture of hot water and deodorizer at the same time. This leaves your carpet clean and refreshed.
- Replace furniture to it’s original position using carpet foil protectors or polystyrene blocks to prevent marks or stains from your furniture’s wheels, or legs of dining tables etc.,
Drying times will vary depending on the amount of ventilation, central heating and carpet type, it is usually between 4-6 hours
DRY COMPOUND SYSTEM
This system is mainly used on Sisal Carpet, or any carpet that cannot be wet cleaned.
- Establish the type of carpet that you have ( including inspection for the correct fitting to ensure that there is no loose gripper or joints)
- Apply a light mist or pre-spray to any particularly dirty areas
- A dry cleaning compound is sprinkled over the area. The compound is impregnated with a dry cleaning solvent
- This is then brushed into the carpet with a rotary machine and left for 1-2 hours while the compound absorbs the dirt from the carpet.
- The carpet is thoroughly vacuumed with a professional Sebo vacuum cleaner to remove the compound along with the dirt it has absorbed..
While this is an acceptable cleaning method, the majority of today’s carpets have been designed to be cleaned using either the Hot Water extraction or Dry Fusion methods both of which are more thorough and provide a better end result.
